Watch Excel Video 55 to learn how to conditionally format cells that are above or below the average of the cells in your range. There’s also an option to format cells that are 1, 2 or 3 standard deviations above or below the average. Please watch carefully and tell me what I’m doing wrong, because it looks like there’s a bug in Excel. I use Excel to calculate the mean and standard deviation, but it looks to me like Excel formats all cells that are 1 standard deviation away, even if you tell Excel to only format cells that are 3 standard deviations away from the mean. If you can see what I’m missing, please leave a comment, but it looks funny to me.
