As promised, there’s an easier array example in Excel Video 357 today. In today’s example we’ll assume that someone’s been counting something such as no shows, patients who arrived more than 15 minutes late for their appointment, or patients needing an xray. To count, they’ve been using some kind of tally mark, like the X’s in the video. The LEN function will count the number of characters (including spaces) in a cell. Rather than create a LEN formula for each row and then a SUM formula to total all of the rows, one array function can calculate the length of each cell and sum the balance. The array makes the calculation much more compact and efficient.
Stay tuned. I have another example of combining functions in an array next time. I look forward to seeing you then.
