I have a tip in Excel Video 469 that I hope will save you some trouble when you’re creating charts with years. Watch how I chart the same set of data with one slight difference that makes a huge impact on how Excel sees years. If we set the chart data up correctly, years show up on the x axis or on the legend. If we don’t set the chart data up correctly, that one small change can cause Excel to see the years as part of your data instead of part of your headings and screw up your chart. Also note on how using Tables as we discussed in Excel Video 468 can solve this problem. It’s a simple trick, but I hope it saves you time and frustration as you chart. Thanks for watching.
