Excel Video 177 demonstrates an easy way to add a drop-down selection box to your worksheet. All of the formulas on this tab are based on having one of the five mutual funds in cell B8. To help my users put the right value in B8, I use Data Validation from the Data tab to tell Excel that I want to limit the valid entries in B8 to a list. Excel makes it easy to point to a list of cells that has the values I need.
I’ll also spend a minute showing you how to customize the error messages based on the selection box to help your users understand how to use your spreadsheet. If you’re creating spreadsheets for others in your office to use, especially those who many not be as familiar with Excel, taking a few minutes to add user-friendly features like this drop-down box may be well worth your time. Thanks for watching.
