Excel Video 303 introduces another way to calculate percentages in a Pivot Table. Today we’ll select a baseline amount for Excel to calculate percentages of in a Pivot Table. We’ll start by using Medicare as a baseline and comparing the other payers’ charges as a percentage of Medicare charges. We’ll then switch to using Years as a baseline and calculate charges as a percentage of a given year. Notice how we can also make the baseline year move over time by selecting previous or next. Excel will then calculate the percentage of the previous year or the next year based on our selection. There are a bunch of practical applications for this technique.
I’m in San Antonio to speak for the Medical Group Management Association’s Annual Conference tomorrow. Both the morning and the afternoon sessions are on data mining with a ton of clever ways to use your practice data. If you’re at the meeting, please stop by and say hello.
