Today’s BIG Idea is to data mine your appointments scheduled for tomorrow and to use that data to manage your front desk staffing. If you can see how many appointments are coming in by appointment start time and then create some logic to know how long those patients will take at the front desk, you can either add staff or reach out to patients to come early and eliminate bottlenecks at front desk registration. Whether you are trying to social distance in your patient lobby or trying to ensure that patients are registered and roomed so providers are not kept waiting, understanding tomorrow’s patient flow is a great place to start. Your practice management system likely has the data you need, it is just a matter of getting a simple way to tell your front desk supervisors what to expect tomorrow so they can plan accordingly.
